Where did all these pens even come from? I don’t think I’ve purchased one my entire life. Some are from hotels I’ve never heard of. Throwing them away doesn’t seem to help. They must climb back out when I’m sleeping.
Maybe you have a portal to my house. I buy no less than 50 pens a year but can never find one when I need it.
my favourite use for all the pens my parents accumulated when I was a kid was taking them apart and sticking the ink into large feathers to make feather pens, was great fun, had a particularly spectacular eagle feathered one that had to be at least 3 feet long.
If they’re really dead (the match trick doesn’t work anymore, and with the plastic refills you can’t do that) I’ll pull the innards out, in case the plastic handle tube that’s left can be of use. Sometimes, I’ll poke a hole in the side, and wrap solder around it and then down the inside, as a third hand. Holding lead solder directly in your mouth is a no-no in recent years…
I only use my two favorite pens now, and buy ink refills for them. (I’ve got an office supply tackle box where I store refills, extra notepads, etc.) When I first made the switch I had a ton of crappy pens that I didn’t want to use.
I left them on my desk during my temp job with the government. Look! Free pens!
Just doing my part to reduce the deficit.
Give the dead ones to your kids. Devoid of it’s guts, a pen barrel make a good peashooter. Write a quick note on a small strip of paper, roll it up, stick it in a ball-point body, and drop spy messages somewhere.
No… It’s the invasion force. They sneak into your house disguised as empty pens then wait to… wait to… OK, I’ve got nothing here.
Wait to annoy you with their dastardly plan of being empty!
Uh oh, I think I said more than I should have…
Brings me back to the really old SF short about the paperclips that disappear, and go breed in the back of the closet. The guy that figured that out is found in the closet, garotted with a wire coathanger…
Just a this afternoon I tried to sign something and discovered I had nothing but rusted old pens at my desk!
If it weren’t for things that need signing, I’d be an exclusive pencil/mechanical pencil user!
Hitchhiker’s Guide again. Planet of unused pens.
