I had this happen to me in college with a watch. I was really bummed out that I finally scratched the glass on it. A few weeks later I noticed a bubble had formed at one end of the scratch. I picked at it a bit and realized for the first time that there was a protective plastic film on it. I peeled it off and it was like getting a brand new free watch out of thin air.
This happened to me with some kind of coating on the cover of my laptop, though it was more than a year. And to be fair I had NO reason to expect there to be plastic on it. That must have been back in…
…good grief, my laptop is five years old. When did this happen? O.O
Oh man, so very this. The really silly part for me… I put the screen protector ON my Nintendo 3DS. Later I wondered how I had managed to mess it up sooooo badly… so adly bubbles were forming and making playing touch screen games a real pain. It turns out there was a second layer of plastic I was supposed to have removed from the screen protector itself! Suddenly my 3DS looked and worked so much better!
This happened to me and my microwave. And yeah…it is a *ridiculously* good feeling!
I first thought I wasn’t supposed to remove the blue plastic from the microwave because it said “Do not remove this cover”. Later I found out that the warning was referring to the metal surface.
It’s the first thing I check, and if the screen looks good already, I’ll leave it on as long as possible. Cheap protection, and then you get that magical feeling later, too.
I did read once in Reader’s Digest about how this family was having a garage sale, and one item they were getting rid of was a big wall mirror, with a hideously greenish-turquoise frame. A neighbor bought it for cheap, and as she was pickig it up, she noticed something funny about the green, and peeled off the protective plastic, revealing a beautiful golden finish to the frame.
One of my cousins just told me that she did this with her phone’s camera lens. Never noticed the little vinyl strip on it. Now the pics she takes are awesome! *sigh*
I haven’t told anyone about the plastic coating on the dishwasher buttons yet. Savin’ it for a big reveal.
