#235 – Age

Birthdays used to be such a big deal. I would anticipate their arrival for weeks. Counting down the days, picking out a cake and location. Today, while I was getting something out of the refrigerator I casually glanced at the calendar and noticed itโ€™s my birthday on Sunday.

Pre-emptive happy birthday, unless you are like me, and don’t actually care anymore.
I know lots of people that make tremendous plans, ensure they have the day off from work, all of that. To me, it’s just another Tuesday, nothing especially special about that. It’s even more of a hassle when people somehow find out, and accost me to wish me a happy birthday. I lie and tell them it isn’t.

That already happens to me, and I’m not even 17 yet…

For me, it’s usually “Wait. I’m a year older now” only when someone asks my age after my birthday’s come and long gone.

  4. boog says:

Whenever people think they are being clever by asking me “So do you feel a whole year older today?” I always fire right back with “Uh no, I only feel a day older. Why would I feel a whole year older? That doesn’t make any sense at all. It’s been only one day! Your whole concept of time and basic arithmetic in general is seriously flawed if you think one day could even possibly feel like a whole year passed. You know what? I can’t talk to you right now. Goodbye, grandma!” and I slam down the phone.

That sounds like something from smbc-comics. That’s an epic set of lines. Gonna so use that on my birthday.

  5. Cyndaquazy says:

The last big milestone for me is probably 21. After that, I most likely won’t pay attention to my age as closely as I do now.

its because you stop getting awesome toys usually when youre an adult.and even if you do get something say from a spouse or child it comes out of the family fund or ends up being more practical

    Happy Early Birthday.

My birthday is the only birthday i remember out of the members of my family. When that rolls around it’s a guessing game to remember how old i’m actually turning.

ps. Good long colorful warm socks were one of the best memorable gifts I’ve ever gotten myself as a present. Bless yourself with the best pair of birthday socks ever!

Saw a lady last night at the Hootenany in gorgeous multicolor long toe-glove socks! And cold enough to need them!

  8. Falos says:

    “One step closer to dying.”

I can’t even remember how old I am, sometimes.

  9. Jaja says:

My birthday is early in September, and being a contractual teacher who changes schools each year, no one ever learns about my birthday until it’s long past. And that’s perfect. Though I do appreciate when people take the time to wish me a good day, I hate being asked if I feel older. I actually feel older on my sons’ birthdays than I do on my own!

  10. Voyager says:

I still remember the first time someone asked me how old I was, and I didn’t remember.

It’s ‘brokets’ (greater than/less than) rather than brackets; FWIW,
I’m twelve! The body is sixty-seven-and-a-half, but by gum, I’m twelve!

  11. SwitchLord says:

    Happy belated birthday..

  12. kingklash says:

I can never forget my birthday, as it’s on Nov 1st, so if anyone forgets when it is, it’s also because they also forgot Hallowe’en.

  13. extremist343 says:

My birthday is on Remembrance Day (Veterans Day for the United Statesians out there), so if anyone forgets my birthday then they are bad people.
