I still have a moment of confusion when I see him. It always feels like he shaved it off for the first time a week ago. My brain always tries to fill it back in.

Yeah, I definitely have “Alex Trebek Syndrome” (not so much filling it in mentally as confusion) when it comes to, well, Alex Trebek, and anyone else who is best known having a mustache and then doesn’t, such as, say, Burt Reynolds. Although I guess his no-stache phase was shorter?
Guess it was a, what, seventies thing? Mine was always quite short while I was in (’64-’72), as was Dad’s, but definitely there. Just – his looked more like, say, Errol Flynn.
