#376 – Peep

There are many people I know now that I’ve never met in person. We mainly interact through text and photos they’ve taken of themselves. These pictures are much more intimate than years ago when you had to ask someone else to take a picture of you.

Self-timers existed in the old days too. But you had to give the negatives away to a lab to get them developed (unless you had a darkroom of yourself and the necessary experience). So the point is rather that we didn’t want some random photo lab employee viewing our more intimate pictures. (And Polaroid photos were outrageously expensive.)

At least we could send those pictures by mail in a pasted-up envelope, without all secret services of the world trying to peep into the envelope.

This would have been a good one to gif. Every so often, the eyes would look out at the viewer.
