Chapter: Comic
When I was a kid there was a TV movie called “The Day After” showing the aftermath of a nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union. I never watched it but it was a big deal at the time and was heavily advertised. There was a shot in one of the commercials that showed people watching the missiles rising into the sky from the horizon that gave me nightmares for years. Now I have to go watch some kitten videos before trying to go to sleep. 🙂

I watched it when I was 13 and it first aired … (shudder!)
I remember watching that movie with my sister and we both had nightmares about it for years.
Videos of kittens launching into the sky?
Hahaha, oh no!
Well; having seen it both then and recently (one of our local stations played it after the evening news a few weekends ago), I’m reminded of how wince-inducingly overwrought it was — not to mention how much Research Fail there was on the technical end. These days it’s just a historical curiosity left over from our Cold War fears and paranoia, nothing more.
You should check out the short film “Fallen Angel” by Euphoric Creations. Never saw The Day After, but I don’t see how it could be much eerier than this short.
The ending of ‘Terminator 3’ featured nuclear launches. I was similarily creeped out by it.
