#200 – Rewind

You got charged $2 at my local place if you didn’t rewind the tape before returning it. I remember that was such a magical thing when we first started renting DVDs. No rewinding! Now I’m so used to streaming movies DVDs seem ridiculous. “What?! Trailers I can’t skip! A fancy menu showing me spoilers from the film! Just start the movie already!”

Well, you _can_ skip the trailers (and other “unskippable” things) if you have a non-compliant DVD player : D. But I agree the menu showing spoilers is kind of silly.

*clicks post before thinking* (You’re welcome to merge these two, Chris. Just stick the rest of this one as another paragraph on the first.)
Most of my stress dreams are about trying to find my locker in high school, even though I’ve been out of it for more than ten years. There are always duplicated hallways and distractions like art exhibits.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike…

There’s a gag gift out there somewhere, that a motorized DVD cleaner, but it’s labeled “DVD Rewinder.” It has a switch on it that spins the disc really fast, accompanied by a stock sound clip of audio tape rewinding.

For some deranged reason, one local store used to plaster those “Be kind, rewind” stickers on everything, including video games. No one could ever quite explain to me how I was supposed to rewind a ROM cartridge.

Simple – delete the save file.

It was actually bad for VHS tapes to be stored rewinded. When you rewind you do it a very high speed, which means that the tape is stored under a lot more stress than if you store it as is after having played through the entire movie.

It’s not like rewinding a movie for a minute before watching is a major issue anyway… I’d rather spend that minute rewinding than watch a movie with glitches in it due to improper storage.
