#237 – Loony

This tends to be a yearly occurrence for me since my birthday hits around the same time as the cold weather out here. The slow lazy movement doesn’t catch your eye at first until suddenly you realize there is motion where there shouldn’t be. Bonus points for walking into one of the strings in the dark and react like its a fresh spider web.

What about when they sloooooowly creep across the room, then, when they get over the register where you are warming yourself, they jump up behind you.

Floral is kinda across the way from my work station (I work in a large store) and sometimes a balloon escapes and if nobody can get it right away, it’ll lose air and just sort of float around halfway between the ceiling and floor like it has a mind of its own. This always amuses me.

Once or twice I had one that would just float down so it was at my eye level an then just as casually float to my paystation and *stay there*, drifting in one place right in front of me, like “Not moving now, yup yup.”

My birthday is at the start of summer, so I have a slightly different problem: I’ll be sitting there, quietly using my computer, well aware that the balloons are exploring all areas of the ceiling, when they suddenly locate the ceiling fan and the silence is broken… WAP WAP WAP!! Catches me off guard every time.

Oh, you mean like “…dammit *finds kleenex to wipe string off with*?”

Which feels worse brushing across your face, the strings, or the ribbons? I’ve had both happen, and they both are different creepy feelings.

When one of us would get a mylar balloon for a birthday my dad would occasionally take almost an hour with a box of tissues weighting the string so it would float perfectly between the floor and ceiling. It would spend the next couple of days or so floating silently around the house scaring the crap out of people. I believe this was one of his great joys.
