Actually, my wife and I really have hid books from our two-year-old daughter that we were just tired of reading to her every night because they were lengthy and boring. The goal is to get her to go to sleep, not the other way around.
My wife’s not proud that we do this; I am, maybe a little.
My parents never had to do that with me. I learned to read when I was three. But later on, Ma would have me read articles out of Reader’s Digest to her while she was cooking.
