There is a horrible expanse of forever between when you hit the send button and when the email you just typed vanishes from the screen. Plenty of time to re-read the first sentence. Plenty of time to glance back at the address in the “To:” field. Not enough time to do anything else as your eyes leap from your skull and collide with the screen they were just reading.

That’s why I use Gmail’s “cancel” feature from the labs. For 5 seconds you have the possibility to cancel the email once sent.
with my phone i have the ability to quickly press cancel. i feel so lucky.
And then the reply comes back: “That’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever said to me!”
I don’t have a girlfriend ….. or a mom.
