I was only 5 at the time and I never knew any difference. I just thought it was how everybody saw things.

I don’t always notice it at first. Then I will think to myself “Why does this 100 million dollar animated movie look like a local car commercial?”
Star Wars was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I watched it all the time off a tape I made when it played on TV. In 1997 the “Special Edition” was released in theaters with updated effects and other changes. I left the theater amazed at how many differences there were. I later found out that a lot of the things I was amazed at were always in the film but cropped out of the square TV formatted version I was used to.
“What is this Superb Owl I keep hearing about?”
“I have a weird urge to eat a Bowl of Soup today.”
“I hope the annual sportsball match is a zinger this year!”
I really thought that by now everyone would have an entire blank wall dedicated to being a TV screen by now. That’s what all the 1980’s Sci-Fi movies taught me. I had no idea that what would really happen is we would all get individual tiny screens to look at. I guess the Nintendo Game Boy was the real future predictor we should have seen coming.
My mom used to tell me to sit back from the TV or I will ruin my eyes. Now I’m constantly putting screens inches away from my face. My eyesight is horrible though. No argument there.
