#246 – Boxed

I took a liking to a regional brand of potato chips when visiting relatives in Michigan. It’s one of the things I now look forward to on our visits. We didn’t travel much around the birth of our 2nd son so they sent us a care package that included two giant bags of the chips. It was awesome.

    Hi Chris,
I live in Michigan and am very curious to what brand of chips you like. “Better Made” is my familys’ favorite. Thanks so much for such great comics! Dave

Those are the ones! Specifically the Rainbow style!

I haven’t tried those, but now I’m really looking forward to it. Thanks!

I’m a Canadian, who has a friend who now lives down in California. When he was home visting with his American fiancĂ©, she fell in love with Ketchup Flavoured Potato Chips, which I guess you don’t have in the U.S. Now whenever he comes home for any reason, he has to take her back ketchup chips, and inevitably at the border (or the airport) the Customs officers treat him as he’s trying to smuggle in a two headed cat.

Yeah I saw those for the first time a few years ago when I went to Toronto. Reminded me of eating french fries dipped in ketchup.

Maybe if he can open the bag and have one (and maybe offer one to the Customs goon) it can be just a carry-on snack. The hard part (of course!) would be to only have one! Arriving home with an empty bag, no points.

Really? I buy all sorts of weird American flavours that you can’t get in Canada, and they never give me a problem. Maybe he should stop telling them about the chips unless they ask specifically about them.

The two main chip brands I miss from our Bay Area days are Laura Scudder and their big bag with two smaller bags inside, and Granny Goose, which has shrunk down to around the Utah area, and occasionally pop up in places like 99-cent stores.

Ah Better Made, some of the greatest chips ever. The Rainbow Style and the BBQ ones are the best.

My mother’s home town area in eastern Iowa has a brand called Sterzing’s They are awesome, but not as good as they used to be since they had to change a “healthier” cooking oil. Now they give me a bit of an anterior gaseous emanation issue.
